Use of Municipal Accommodation Tax Funds

The County will create a Municipal Services Corporation to manage 50% of the MAT revenue not retained by the Townships within Haliburton County, this body will act as the County's Destination Management Organization (DMO). A Municipal Services Corporation (MSC) is established through a by-law passed by its governing body and serves a specific purpose, reporting directly to that body, in this case, the County. In a local context, an MSC will ensure strong alignment between the Corporation, the County, and the four member municipalities. These organizations are generally subject to municipal procedures, policies, and other by-laws, which enhances transparency regarding the budget and decisions made by the board.
