Economic Development Strategy

The County of Haliburton is undertaking an Economic Development Strategy and have retained Strexer Harrop Consulting Group to the complete the Strategy.

An Economic Development Strategy will create a road map for economic transformation and growth, with the goal of yielding long-term prosperity for the County. It will include steps that will require the participation of the business community, institutions and citizens. While the County has had tremendous success developing and marketing tourism, the challenging realities of today's economy call for new directions, ideas and approaches to enhance economic growth, attract investment and ensure that opportunity continues to be a significant part of County’s quality of life.

This project will lay the foundation for the implementation of a new Economic Development Strategy in the County of Haliburton and will produce the following:

1. Creation of a vision for economic development in the County of Haliburton
2. Establishment of strategic priorities and action plan which includes data analysis, public input, and rationale to support recommendations.
   1. For each identified strategic priority, include:
      1. Objectives;
      2. Roles (lead/supporting agencies, partnership opportunities);
      3. Timing (short/medium/long term);
      4. Action Plan;
      5. Resource requirements (budget implications, funding source); and
      6. Performance Metrics.
3. Draft a 5 Year Economic Development Department budget and business plan that aligns with recommendations outlined in Strategy

Project Update

At the April 26th Haliburton County Council, meeting, the 2023 - 2026 - Haliburton County Economic Development Strategy was officially adopted by County Council. Staff and Council are both excited to begin working on the implementation of this document. Staff will be brining back an updated Economic Development and Tourism Department operational plan Council to outline what tactics they will be focusing on for the reaminder of the year.
