Project Description

The County of Haliburton is developing a Community Climate Action Plan (CCAP). The CCAP will aim to provide a long-term roadmap for the transition to a low carbon and resilient community.

The local impacts of climate change are already being felt through seasonal flooding, increased heat waves, and more extreme storms. Local contributions to climate change include greenhouse gas emissions from on-road transportation (67%), residential buildings (24%), industrial, commercial and institutional buildings (6%), and off-road transportation (3%).

Adapting to more variable and extreme weather, protecting our natural assets, and reducing greenhouse gas emissions will improve community health and wellbeing, generate job opportunities, and increase energy affordability and transportation options.

Community Engagement

The CCAP will be designed to reflect the interests and perspectives of the community regarding the future sustainability of the County. Community feedback will be used to identify and prioritize goals, targets, strategies and actions that the County can take to build a low carbon and resilient future.
